CAF is a single application form for FPIs to apply for registration, PAN allocation, KYC and for opening bank and demat accounts in India.

The Common Application Form (‘CAF’) and supporting documents are to be filed with the DDP/Custodian to:
- Obtain FPI registration as a Cat I or Cat II FPI
- Obtain Permanent Account Number (PAN) i.e., the Indian tax ID
- Open bank / security /depository accounts
The application form and list of supporting documents can be obtained from the custodian.
Once complete set of documents are submitted, FPI license is required to be granted within 30 days.
The registration is permanent unless suspended or cancelled by SEBI or surrendered by the FPI. A fee is required to be paid for continuance of registration for every block of 3 years.
